Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that he will field the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba against Hull City on Tuesday. The Red Devils will host The Tigers at Old Trafford in the first-leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.
“Today I played with fresh players, the players that didn’t play against West Ham. And the next match against Hull I’m going to play again with fresh players so it’s easy to know our team – it’s Zlatan, it’s Pogba, it’s [Ander] Herrera, it’s [Antonio] Valencia, the guys who didn’t play today.” Mourinho said, as reported by Sky Sports.
Manchester United continued their eighth successive wins against Championship club Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday. Mourinho’s men clinched a 4-0 victory with the likes of Ibrahimovic and Pogba being unused substitutes.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid gaffer made nine changes to the squad which defeated West Ham United. The Portuguese has hinted of further changes in the squad which faces Hull on Tuesday.
Aside from Ibrahimovic and Pogba, the likes of David de Gea, Jesse Lingard and Matteo Darmian were also not included in the FA Cup squad against Reading. However, The Red Devils showed no signs of weakness as they romped over their Championship opponents.
Club captain Wayne Rooney opened the scoring as he drew level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s 249-goal haul for the club. Strikes from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford increased the lead of the hosts as United made their way into the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Luke Shaw, who is yet to make an appearance for United since November 30, 2016 is expected to return for the EFL cup tie against Hull City on Tuesday. The Englishman is yet to hit back to full-form since his devastating leg breaking injury in the Champions League, last season.
Mourinho unsure of Marcos Rojo return
Manchester United center-back Marcos Rojo is a doubt ahead of the Red Devil’s EFL Cup tie against Hull City. The Argentine suffered an undisclosed muscle injury in the team’s FA Cup tie against Reading and the extent of the injury is still unclear.
Mourinho has revealed that he doesn’t know when the player will be fit. Hence, the 53-year-old will prefer to wait on the player before revealing any return date.
“I don’t know [if Rojo will be fit]. With muscles, I always have lots of question marks and I don’t like to say. People like to say ‘first degree, X days out’, ‘second degree…’ Let’s wait.” Mourinho said, as reported by ESPN.
