English Premier League (EPL) club Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp wants Barcelona right-back Aleix Vidal at Anfield next season. However, the Catalan giants have delivered a massive blow to The Reds regarding their pursuit of the defender by revealing $66 million as the amount they need to cough up in order to get the player.
Aleix Vidal is having a torrid time at Camp Nou as playing chances have been few and far for the Spaniard who arrived from Sevilla last year. Liverpool wanted to capitalize on the situation and offer the 26-year-old an escape route to regular football.
However, if reports are to be believed, then Barcelona will only let the defender leave Camp Nou if Liverpool pays the entire release clause of the player. This will prove to be a stumbling block for Klopp getting his hands on Vidal, since $66 million is a lot of money to pay for a defender who is 26-year-old, according to Mundo Deportivo – via Metro.
Nathaniel Clyne has had a brilliant season for The Reds on one of the full back positions. However, it is on the other flank where Klopp has faced the major troubles. Alberto Moreno is brilliant going forward in attack, but his defensive capabilities has left a lot to be desired.
If Liverpool fails to capture Vidal from Barcelona, then their next target will be Raphael Guerreiro of Lorient, as reported by Ouest France – via TalkSport.
“He will only be transferred if a club makes an offer that we can’t refuse. For the moment four major foreign clubs, including Dortmund and Liverpool, have made an offer.” Alex Hayes, Lorient vice-president said.
Bringing in a defender will be Jurgen Klopp’s first priorities this summer before the start of the new season. Liverpool will also like to bring in a forward, although no particular name is circling the rumor mills at the moment.
