English Premier League (EPL) club Arsenal now sit in pole position, ahead of Everton to sign Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez Martinez before the summer transfer window deadline on August 31, 2016.
The 27-year-old striker has scored 17 goals in the La Liga last season and was courted by Everton manager, Ronald Koeman for a long time. But, reports in Spain are now suggesting that Arsenal have surpassed the Liverpool club and are strong favorites to sign the player, as reported by BBC.

Everton are still hopeful that they will be able to finalize the deal with Lucas Perez Martinez, but Arsenal are desperate to sign a striker this summer and see the player as a perfect alternative to their missed target Jamie Vardy.
If Arsenal does manage to sign Lucas, it will be a considerable blow to Koeman and Everton’s director of football, Steve Walsh. They have been monitoring the player for a long time and wanted to add him as a perfect support to Romelu Lukaku.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been under pressure from the media as well as the club supporters to make significant signings this summer. The Frenchman wants to make a breakthrough signing following the criticism by supporters after the Gunners’ goalless draw against Leicester City last weekend.
Meanwhile, Everton is also being linked with Napoli striker Manolo Gabbiadini. Koeman is also interested in signing Sunderland’s unsettled center-back Lamine Kone. However, his approach has been rejected by the The Black Cats boss David Moyes.
