Manchester City has won the race in the capture of Palmeiras forward Gabriel Jesus. The news will be made official by the The Citizens in the coming days.
Cristiano Simoes, agent of Gabriel Jesus was responsible in the transfer as he accepted an outstanding offer of $35.35 million from Manchester City. The amount is much higher than the player’s current market value of $22 million, as reported by sport-english.com.
Gabriel Jesus was initially interested to join Barcelona, but was convinced to join the English club to a five-year contract after being offered an amount way over the odds. The main criterion behind the capture of the 19-year-old is believed to be the financial supremacy of the transfer bid.
However, Jesus won’t be flying off to the City of Manchester Stadium just yet. In accordance to the wish of the player as well as the club, Palmeiras, Manchester City has allowed the forward to stay with the Alviverde until December, this year.
Once the current calendar year ends, it will be on City manager Pep Guardiola to decide whether he wants to bring the player to England or let him stay in Brazil until the start of the 2017/18 season.
Initially, it was Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain who were interested to sign Gabriel Jesus. But, Manchester City just came into the race in the last moment to prize the striker away from the other five big fish of the market.
Gabriel Jesus is considered as one of the best young prospects in world football at the moment. He has already scored 5 goals in 11 appearances for Palmeiras in the Brazilian Serie A this season. He also has three assists to his name and has a shot accuracy of 50%, according to Squawka.
