Manchester United right-back Matteo Darmian has experienced a difficult 18-month period at the football club. The player arrived at Old Trafford last summer for $20 million from Torino.
Since the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho, Darmian has failed to play a single minute for the Red Devils this season. The Portuguese boss has preferred Antonio Valencia as his first-choice right back. This has placed the future of the Italy international in doubt at Manchester, according to Football Italia.
United are prepapred to let go of the player in January, 2016. A host of Italian Serie A clubs like Juventus, Napoli, Inter Milan, Roma and Fiorentina are interested in signing the player. Inter and Juve are tagged as the favorites to sign the 26-year-old.
It is believed that newly appointed Inter coach Frank De Boer had launched a transfer bid to sign Darmian this summer. However, Manchester United rejected the approach as Mourinho wanted to keep the player at the club as a quality backup.
But, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has made Darmian his top transfer target in the upcoming January window. Current right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner has had a fallout with the club and Allegri sees Darmian as the proper replacement.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has already selected a replacement should Darmian leave Old Trafford in January. Monaco’s Fabinho is being heavily linked to make a move to United.
It is being reported that the Portuguese boss will pay an amount of $20 million to acquire Fabinho in the winter transfer window.
