Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic of world football, Jesper Karlsson from Swedish premier football division side Falkenberg. This has been revealed by the sporting director of the club, Hakan Nilsson.
“They’ve expressed their interest. Them and several other big clubs. I’m not speculating about anything at this stage. First, there has to be some form of formal offer from some club, and that hasn’t happened.” Nilsson said, as reported by Aftonbladet.se.
Despite Falkenberg languishing at the bottom of the Swedish top-flight, Karlsson has been playing fantastic. The 18-year-old has already scored four times this season and is the current joint leading goalscorer of the club. The player has also provided two assists until now for his teammates, according to The Sun.
Speaking about his link to Manchester United, Karlsson was humble enough to note that he just has to go out and perform on the pitch. It is a plus that the club with the stature of United has shown an interest in him, but it is not something which will derail him from his focus.
“It is of course fun. But I cannot do anything more than to just do my best and go out and perform. The check happened and they think I’m good, it’s just a plus.” Karlsson said.
The player is contracted to Falkenberg until 2018. However, Nilsson has stressed on the fact that the club will consider offers, if any comes in for Karlsson.
But, Falkenberg’s sporting director was quick to note that there has been no formal bids for the player, despite many top clubs showing interest.
