Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is already looking to improve his current midfield options, despite buying Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window. The Portugal manager is not impressed with his midfielder options and wants to buy a perfect partner for Pogba in the January transfer window.
Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho has been linked to the Red Devils. The Old Trafford outfit are reportedly “very interested” in acquiring the services of the defensive midfielder, as reported by Calciomercato.
The Portugal international is considered as one of the rising stars of the game. The 24-year-old had a fantastic Euro 2016 for his country, in which they went on to win the tournament.
William Carvalho is built for the Premier League. He has a strong structure and can easily match the physicality of the powerful English game. He is superb in the air, good with the ball at his feet and can shield the ball properly during play. He is also a brilliant tackler of the ball.
The man from Luanda, Angola has been one of the key players for Sporting Lisbon. Despite his importance to the club, Carvalho has previously expressed his desire to leave for greener pastures. If United makes an offer for the player in January, he could finally bid farewell to Portugal for a more competitive league.
However, there are certain limitations to Carvalho’s game. The defensive midfielder can switch off during certain parts of the game and is also known not to track opponent runners. His passing of the ball and his creativity can also become predictable.
But, Mourinho could be the perfect coach to develop on these limitations of Carvalho and expose his true potential to the world.
