Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is adamant to make a statement signing in this transfer window and who better to sign than Juventus’ Paul Pogba to make that statement.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola is reportedly set to have a meeting with Mourinho regarding the transfer of his French client. Real Madrid, who are also heavily linked with the player has been put on hold for the moment. The possible topic of discussion has been touted to be the return of his client to the club he left four years ago, as reported by AS.
Since Pogba’s departure in 2012, fans and many within the United hierarchy have lamented his exit, especially since he has grown into a world-class center midfielder. The grief has been increased by the fact that it is the central midfield position where United have struggled the most.
The Frenchman’s best season since joining Juventus has been the 2015-16 one. The 23-year-old has shown some sublime form for the Bianconeri and has dazzled the football world with his brilliant performances, according to Daily Star.
Mourinho knows that Pogba will come costly to him. But, the Portuguese also knows that in the Frenchman, he would get a player who is already considered as one of the best in the word and will remain the same for a considerable amount of time in the future.
Mourinho’s teams have always consisted of players who offered both in attack as well as defense. One of his most important positions on the pitch is the dynamic box-to-box midfielder. Pogba will fill the role perfectly at United, should he decide to sign for the club.
However, with clubs like Real Madrid on the market, who will offer both money and Champions League football, it will be tough for United to capture the player. But, nothing is impossible and if Mourinho is able to sign Pogba, it will send a signal of intent from Old Trafford showing that United are back on track to become the elite in world football once again.
