Jose Mourinho, manager of Manchester United has shown an interest to sign Chelsea winger Willian. The Portuguese values the Brazilian from his time with the Blues and wants to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will have to cough up in excess of $31 million for the former Shakhtar Donetsk player. The 53-year-old believes that the free running skills of Willian will be a huge asset to the Manchester United squad, according to Tony Banks of Daily Express.
“Willian only signed a new four-year deal at Stamford Bridge in July, but Mourinho is ready to test the waters with Chelsea with a January move for a player who has not started a league match since the beginning of October.” Banks reported.
Antonio Conte has rarely used Willian in his first-team plans. The Italian manager has preferred the likes of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso in the wide areas over the Brazilian.
Conte prefers a 3-4-2-1 formation and there seems to be no obvious spot for Willian in it. Chelsea play with a lone striker Diego Costa upfront. Eden Hazard and ex-Barcelona star Pedro, the two creative attacking midfielders of the team is placed behind the frontman.
It is tough for Willian to crack into the first-team of Chelsea under the current tactical setup. The player is neither used as a wing-back nor is he rated over the likes of Hazard or Pedro.

A move away from Stamford Bridge is a practical option to find regular game time for Willian. Mourinho could offer Willian the perfect opportunity as both have worked together before.
Willian was an influential player under the former Real Madrid gaffer. In Chelsea’s 2014/15 Premier League winning campaign, the player made 36 appearances for the Blues in which he scored 2 goals. He also created an incredible 49 chances for his teammates, according to Squawka.
Apart from his numbers, Willian is known for his excellent work rate. The Brazilian is a typical Mourinho type player and if United is able to capture his signature, it could be a brilliant acquisition at Old Trafford.
