Manchester United are willing to let go of their last season’s Dutch acquisition, Memphis Depay before the end of the summer transfer window. After failing to live up to his reputation, Depay is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

However, for any club interested to acquire the winger, they need to pay a transfer fee in the region of $34.14 million, an amount near to what United paid for the player last summer. The 22-year-old arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation as one of the most talented wingers in the world, but has failed to deliver on his potential, as reported by Sam Wallace of the Daily Telegraph.

Depay, who was recently dropped from the Dutch national team, made a total of 29 appearances for United in the Premier League last season, scoring 2 goals. He had a shot accuracy of 44% and created a total of 12 chances for his team, according to Squawka.

With new incomings at Old Trafford this summer, competition for places has increased and Depay will have to fight hard to regain his position in the first-team squad. He needs regular football at the top to get back in the international picture as well.

“I have spoken to Memphis and while he feels fit, I’ve told him I think that it is important that he first concentrates on getting back a spot in the 18-man squad at Manchester United. Hopefully, then he gets back in the picture for our next internationals in October and thereafter.” Danny Blind, Netherlands coach said, as reported by Sky Sports.

This will mean that Depay could also be forcing a move away from the Theater of Dreams to find regular first-team opportunities elsewhere. However the staggering valuation of $34.14 million by United could prove to be a stumbling block in any transfer deals from happening.
