While the entire world is divided into who is the best footballer between Messi and Ronaldo, former Barcelona great and current Al-Sadd player Xavi Hernandez had his say on the matter. The 36-year-old has no doubt over whom the best player in the world is at the moment.

“Messi is the best player in the world. In football, there are two important factors: fitness and intelligence. Ronaldo is very fit but Messi has both the fitness and the intelligence, so in short, Messi is better.” Xavi said to The New Arab.

The man from Terrassa, Spain also had his say on the memories he had during the “Clasico” matches between Barcelona and Real Madrid. According to the midfield maestro, the landmark matches for him against Madrid were the ones in which the Catalan club won 5-0 and 6-2.

Speaking on the Champions League this season, the man who made 505 appearances for the Blaugrana stated that Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are the likely contenders of winning the crown. However, they must be aware of Real Madrid since the Los Blancos have a history of playing better in the Champions League.

Xavi also mentioned Riyad Mahrez as a “very good player”. He wishes to see the Leicester City man play for Barcelona in the future considering his talent.

The World Cup winner considers the Brazilian Ronaldo and the Frenchman Zinedine Zidane as the best players he has ever faced in the El Clasico.

“Lots of players but the ones I can’t forget are Ronaldo ‘the phenomenon’, Luis Figo, Raul, Fernando Hierro, Roberto Carlos, Zidane and in the later years Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil. However, the best out of all these I would say were Zidane and Ronaldo the Brazilian.” Xavi said.
