PSV Eindhoven has just prolonged the contract of Luuk de Jong for four years. The deal is expected to keep the Netherlands national team player until 2020.

According to ESPNFC, de Jong’s contract was extended for a year in its original expiration of 2019. The 25-year-old forward was elated when he learned that his contract has been extended.

“I am feeling appreciated here and feeling at home, which is important to me”, Luuk said. He added that he also felt happy that he will continue to play for PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch player also mentioned that he did not expect to stay for PSV.

“When I first signed for PSV, the plan was to play here for two years and then consider my options”, De Jong stated.

Instead of his original plan, the contract that he signed was a €5.5M, 5-year deal with Eindhoven that was extended by a year just recently.

Moreover, Luuk became the captain of Eindhoven in 2015. This may be another reason why the forward’s contract was prolonged as his team has been successful lately.

His team also won against FC Groningen in the finals of the 2015 Dutch Supercup. The Dutch forward has led PSV Eindhoven to the title by scoring a brace. He also led the team to back to back Eredivisie titles in 2015 and 2016.

De Jong transferred to PSV Eindhoven in 2014 after playing limited minutes with Borussia Mönchengladbach. He did not have a good outing while playing for Borussia as he felt that he made a mistake going to Germany.

The creative player out of Netherlands has made a total of 89 appearances for PSV Eindhoven so far. He also scored 58 goals in the two years he played for the club team.
