After capturing N’Golo Kante from English Premier League (EPL) champions Leicester City, Chelsea are looking to bring in another of The Foxes superstar player in the form of Riyad Mahrez. The move looks highly likely as the Algerian has expressed his desire of leaving the King Power Stadium.
The Blues confirmed the signing of Kante on Saturday and manager Antonio Conte wants to add Mahrez to that list as well. The Italian wants to add a proven creative threat who can score goals and Mahrez is a proven player in the Premier League, as reported by Sunday Express.
Mahrez was one of the sensational players for champions Leicester City in the Premier League last season. He featured in 37 matches for The Foxes in which he scored 17 goals. He created a total of 67 chances for his team, in which 11 were assists. Mahrez completed a total of 746 passes last season, 84% of which were forward passes with 74% accuracy, according to Squawka.
Losing Mahrez to Chelsea will be a huge blow for the champions as the club will miss the player’s creativity and goalscoring threat upfront. The summer seemed to start well for Leicester after striker Jamie Vardy committed his future with the club, declining Arsenal. But, with Kante choosing Chelsea, it seems that Mahrez may be off as well.
If Conte is able to rope in the Algerian, he will have a plethora of attacking options with the likes of Pedro, Willian and Eden Hazard already at the club. Mahrez will know that he will have to perform at a higher level if he wishes to feature for the Blues regularly in the Premier League.
