Santi Carzola and Lucas Perez of Arsenal will miss the trip to relegation threatened Sunderland because of injuries. This will be a double blow for the Gunners as they chase their first Premier League title since 2003.
Lucas Perez’s injury will haunt Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger more as the player will face some lengthy spells on the sidelines. The new summer signing has been struck with an ankle ligament injury, which he experienced against Reading.
The 28-year-old is expected to be out of action for the entire duration of November. If the recovery process goes well, then the former Deportivo La Coruna striker will return back to football by the end of next month, according to Mail Online.
Carzola on the other hand has not featured for Arsenal since being involved in a fairly easy Champions League encounter against Ludogorets. The 31-year-old missed The Gunner’s goalless draw against Middlesbrough in the Premier League as well their win over Reading in the EFL Cup, according to Metro.
Arsenal will not only miss the services of Carzola’s influence in midfield, but also the likes of Granit Xhaka as the Swiss is suspended for the encounter. Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny will supposedly start in midfield against Sunderland.
However, all hope is not lost for Wenger. Olivier Giroud has returned to full fitness and the center-forward is expected to make an influence at the Stadium of Light. This is very important since Arsenal has been thin upfront with the absence of Danny Welbeck and now Perez being injured.
Aaron Ramsey will also be available for selection on Saturday as the Welshman will be traveling with the team to face Sunderland. The 25-year-old has been missing action for over two months due to a hamstring injury.
