English Premier League (EPL) side Chelsea have turned their interest to Lazio center-back Stefan de Vrij. The Blues manager, Antonio Conte desperately wants a central defender in his squad and after failing to acquire the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Nikola Maksimovic, has turned his attention to the Dutch international.
Chelsea’s longtime interest, Kalidou Koulibaly was refused a move by his club Napoli and their second target, Maksimovic is most likely heading to Stadio San Paolo. This has forced Conte to consider de Vrij as his main defender target heading into the final few days of the summer transfer window, as reported by Football ITALIA.
The 24-year-old, de Vrij is valued at $28 million by Lazio which will also include added performance and appearance related bonuses for the player. The young center-back already has a total of 30 international caps for Netherlands and has netted in three goals for his country.
The man from Ouderkerk aan den IJssel, Netherlands was snapped up by the Biancocelesti from Dutch side Feyenoord for $7.8 million in 2014. The player has since gone on to impress in the Italian Serie A.
However, the player missed the entire of the 2015/16 season due to a knee ligament injury, which he suffered in September. He was only able to make two appearances for the club.
In his 2014/15 campaign, de Vrij made a total of 30 appearances for his club. He was involved in an average of 10 defensive actions per match. He has an average pass accuracy of 83% and wins 50% of his duels. He also created a total of 8 chances for his club, according to Squawka.
The Dutchman is contracted to Lazio until June 2018.
