In the first quarterfinals matchup of the 2016 Copa America Centenario, the United Sates will meet Ecuador at the CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington on Thursday, June 16. USA topped Group A to set up a showdown with Group B runners-up Ecuador.

Both teams are coming off wins in their last matches but the USMNT has the momentum and home-field advantage over La Tricolor. Team USA was able to hold on for a 1-0 win over Paraguay last Saturday when right back DeAndre Yedlin was sent off in the opening minutes of the second half.

On the other hand, Ecuador is coming off a 4-0 win over Haiti but they only drew their first two matches. USA vs. Ecuador is an even matchup on paper but the Americans are slight +160 betting favorites, according to Oddshark.

The last time these two teams squared off was on May 25 in a friendly in Frisco, Texas wherein the Americans won 1-0. Darlington Nagbe scored the game-winning volley in the 90th minute.

The USMNT are somewhat lucky since they are not facing Brazil or Peru but they have a strong lineup that has not allowed a goal since the 2-0 opening loss to Colombia. However, Yedlin will be suspended for the match against Ecuador.

Nonetheless, Ecuador is still a dangerous team to face and the Americans need to be on the top of their game and not look down on their opponents. USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann wants his team to go all guns blazing for the rest of the tournament.

“I want to see them risk things. Let’s go for it. Because if you’re not going for it, sooner or later they’re going to break you down,” Klinsmann told CBS Sports.
