Will Louis Van Gaal continue as Manchester United boss for another season? Rumors were growing louder that United will sack their Dutch coach very soon, even if he still has another year of his contract. Jose Mourinho will be taking charge at Old Trafford as the Dutchman’s replacement.
Now, it seems that Mourinho will have to wait for another year, till 2017 summer. Van Gaal is still there, and a section of the United officials want to retain him until the end of his contract. So, the Red Devils’ CEO Woodward has a third option now, apart from the widely speculated to retain Van Gaal or sack him to bring the former Chelsea boss, as pointed out by prominent football journalist Duncan Castles.
“Manchester United have asked Jose Mourinho to replace Van Gaal as manager,” Castles tweeted.
“In the summer of 2017. Unsurprisingly, Mourinho is not interested in waiting an additional year to return to management.”
So, it’s likely that Mourinho may lose interest if the Premiership giants take such a stance of seeing Van Gaal until the end of his 3-year contract.
In this regard, former United star Roy Keane has backed Van Gaal. The former Irish International feels that United must retain Van Gaal if he wins the FA Cup.
“It was always going to be difficult, even for David Moyes, after Alex Ferguson, but I think if United can win the cup — it might be difficult to finish fourth — I don’t see why United won’t let him finish out the last year of his contract,” Keane told podcast. Keane has donned United colors for 12 long years.
