EXCLUSIVE: Ronda Rousey Cancels Rematch With Holly Holm?

By on

Fans were dying for a Ronda-Holly rematch and when UFC co–owner Lorenzo Fertitta hinted that Ronda Rousey might fight Holly at UFC 200 in July, it was touted to be a record breaking event.

However, news now comes in that Ronda Rousey will not fight Holly Holm at UFC 200 in July.

UFC President, Dana White confirmed the news. In an interview with Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday, White said that Ronda is unlikely to have a rematch with Holly at UFC 200 because she needs more time off due to her movie obligations.

Rousey is set to star in the remake of Road House and will also be playing a major character in another movie, Mile 22. Both are big-budget Hollywood movies and are set to start filming in the first half of 2016.

Apparently, filming of the movie got delayed which is why Ronda has asked for more time.

“The filming of the movie got pushed back,” White said to Yahoo! Sports. “She could do both, but the question is, should she do both? She could do both, but why should she? The filming is in a time frame where she’d finish before 200, but it would be cutting it too close.”

White also revealed that because of Ronda’s decision, he allowed Holly to make her title defense against Meisha Tate first, instead of making her wait for Ronda.

However, question then arises; if Holly loses her match to Tate would a rematch with Ronda then prove worthwhile? Quite a risk, isn’t it? But White said that he is willing to take that risk for Ronda for what she has done for the sport, no other fighter has done it ever before.

“The way I look at this one is, Ronda has worked her ass off for us for the last three years,” White said.

“She’s been fighting, promoting and building the sport. If anyone deserves the time off, it’s her. The night [of UFC 193] Holly said she’d do the rematch and that Ronda deserved it and everything else. So we were holding it for her if she wanted to do it.”

“What that woman has done is above and beyond what anyone has done. I mean, it’s just unbelievable what she’s done in the last three years. Anything we needed, she didn’t say no to anything; said no to nothing. She even took over responsibilities somebody else was supposed to have. So when she tells me she wants more time, you know what? She’s got it.”
