FIBA Asia 2015 is likely to see a spectacular match getting underway in just a few moments, when Gilas Pilipinas suits up against the Iranian supremacy.
The continental rivals will hold nothing back in their crucial encounter into the second round of FIBA Asia 2015 Championship. While Iran will look to count on their confident start in the first round, Philippines would like to hand Iran their first defeat in the tournament.
Starting off as two favourite teams in their respective groups, Iran hasn’t lost a game in their first round, while the Philippines have gone through to the second round wining two out of their three games.
The game starts today at 11:45AM (PH Time) and you can catch all the live action at Sports 5.
The two teams will battle it out for the top spot in the Group E match and look forward to a more favourable bracket likely opposite China.
Gilas Pilipinas veteran Asi Taulava, in an interview before the game, told InterAksyon, “That’s the game we’ve been preparing for. It’s especially crucial for us, both teams, cause whoever wins tomorrow will become number one and will have a lighter bracket to go into. It’s going to be tough.”
However, the colossal centre, Hamid Haddadi of Iran, stands in Philippines way of breaking Iran’s supremacy. Though the players are friendly and have the utmost respect for Haddadi, they will leave no stones unturned to avenge their loss in the gold medal match of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.
The Gilas suffered a set back in their last group match victory against Japan, with their star player Andray Blatche down sprained ankle. The team will look forward to winning this match as they move forward putting all set backs aside.
When InterAksyon asked about Taulava’s match up with Haddadi, the Filipino exclaimed, “It doesn’t matter as long as we win. You can have me match up with the referee. The most important thing is the victory tomorrow”.
