Manchester United’s managerial job is tough One of the most famous coaches of world football Louis Van Gaal has certainly realized it. Van Gaal has won league titles with Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
However, United has been too hot for him to handle. If everything falls into place, Jose Mourinho looks to take over from the Dutchman as the next Manchester United boss.
Mourinho has reportedly agreed a similar package to that of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, as reported by Mirror.
The current Manchester United squad has been built around Van Gaal’s philosophy. Despite the Dutchman being Mourinho’s former mentor, the Portuguese will have a different look to his own United.
Mourinho certainly has a style he likes to imbibe in his team. Let us look as to what changes the self-proclaimed special one brings to the Manchester United team next season.
United’s center-back position needs to be strengthened. Despite Dailey Blind partnering Chris Smalling at the back, United have regularly looked vulnerable on the counters. Their good defensive record is based on the shoulders of goalkeeper David De Gea, who has been outstanding for the Red Devils.
Let us look at the probable defenders who may arrive at Mourinho’s United next summer.
1) Aymeric Laporte
2) John Stones
3) Raphael Varane
The next position that needs to be strengthened is the No.9 or the striker. United have let go of several options this season in the likes of Robin Van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Javier Hernandez with none of them being properly replaced.
Although Anthony Martial has arrived with a bang, he has featured mostly on the left wing for the Red Devils. Let us look at some possible arrivals.
1) Mauro Icardi
2) Antoine Griezmann
3) Edison Cavani
The third position on the list that requires strengthening after the injury of both Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia is the wings. United has held a long tradition of world-class wingers. Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Cristano Ronaldo are some of the few names to have donned the famous red shirt of Manchester.
The authority at Old Trafford did try to bring in Angel Di Maria last season, but it did not work out as the Argentinian failed to adapt to the tough English game and made his way to the much easier French League. Memphis Depay has also failed to live up to his billing. Hence, a new man on the wings for United is a must next summer.
Let us look at the potential candidates.
1) Gareth Bale
3) Felipe Anderson
The final position on the list is the central midfield. Michael Carrick has not been offered a new contract yet. Bastian Schweinsteiger is getting old and injury is taking a toll on his body.
With Only Herrera and Schneiderlin left, United will surely want another player in that position. These could be the names who can aim to be the next Paul Scholes or Roy Keane.
1) Paul Pogba
2) Luka Modric
3) Renato Sanches
Whatever happens, Mourinho will want to stamp his authority at Old Trafford from the get go and we will likely see many new arrivals at the club.
