Jones Cup 2016: Iran and Philippines remain undefeated after three games

The battle for the top spot is on in the 2016 Jones Cup. Teams from Iran and the Philippines are still undefeated in the tournament.

The Iranians features their young and up and coming players. The team featured by key players such as Hamed Haddadi, Benham Yakhchali Dehkhordi and Oshin Sahakian.

Meanwhile, the Philippine team is an amateur team represented by the Mighty Sports Club. This team locally competes in some commercial leagues in the Philippines.The team is composed of 6 imports and 6 locals with key players such as Al Thornton, Zach Graham and Hamady N’diaye.

N’diaye is a big man who represents Senegal in major FIBA competitions. The rules on Jones Cup allows non-national team clubs to participate in the competition. This is why the Philippines are able to field their foreign players on the games.

Meanwhile, the Iranians is coached by Dirk Bauermann. He is a former coach of the Germany National Team. Iran recently beat Egypt with a score of 75-64.

The Philippines is mentored by former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) coach Bo Perasol. Mighty Sports has defeated recently a select team from the United States with a score of 88-69.

This tourney was used by the Iranian national team to prepare for the coming 2016 FIBA Asia challenge held on their home soil from September 9 to 18 later this year.

The Jones Cup tournament is scheduled from July 23 to 31 at the Sinjhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City and the team with the best record after the single round robin will be crowned the champions
