MMA Rumors: McGregor scorned by Texas pastor for comments about Jesus Christ

Looks like a Texas pastor is not fond of UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor.

The pastor, a resident of Texas has asked God to “strike” McGregor in response to the UFC champion’s statement of knocking out Jesus Christ in a fight. McGregor made the statement in December last year ahead of his UFC 194 fight with Jose Aldo.

McGregor was asked if there was anybody he couldn’t knock out in the Octagon and when Jesus’ name came up, the outspoken Irishman didn’t hold back. McGregor said that if Jesus was his opponent in a fight then he would “whoop his ass”.

Apparently, Pastor Donnie Romero of the Stedfast Baptist Church in Texas didn’t like McGregor’s comments and blasted him in his recent sermon. Pastor Romero has asked God to strike down McGregor as a sign of his power, reports FOX Sports.

“I’m going to pray that God strikes this guy dead,” Romero said to his congregation.

“Do you know why? Guy’s name is Conor McGregor. He’s the UFC featherweight champ or something like that, he’s on this run of just knocking people out. But he got up and he said ‘if Jesus Christ was in the ring with me, I’d knock him out’”.

The ‘Notorious’ also addressed the same comment again at the UFC 196 pre-fight press conference where he said that Jesus and he are “cool”.

“Me and Jesus are cool,” McGregor said. “I’m cool with all the gods. Gods recognize gods.”

The Texas pastor didn’t like this statement either and again asked God to strike McGregor, but this time with a lightning bolt.

“That guy, I’m going to pray that God strikes him down with a lightning bolt,” Romero said. “So everybody in the world that believes the bible, even a little bit, knows that it was God, it was Jesus who struck him down.”
