Pau Gasol is one of the potential free agents after the 2015-2016 NBA Season and the Chicago Bulls could decide to trade him in the current season so they can get something in return for the veteran big man or lose him for nothing in free agency.
According to various reports, the Bulls want to make some changes in their current roster, as noted by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, who has stated in a recent podcast that Chicago is willing to let go one of Joakim Noah or Taj Gibson to acquire a wing player.
Tom West of fansided.com speculates in this NBA trade rumor that one of the three Chicago’s frontcourt players could be available, “if the price is right” especially with Gasol expected to opt out of his current contract with the Bulls.
“The Knicks just so happen to have the kind of wing that may interest the Bulls, which, of course, is Arron Afflalo. He won’t be given up easily by any means, as he’s been a starter for all his games in New York and his 13.5 points per game and 35.8 percent three-point shooting are valuable,” West adds in his NBA trade rumor report suggesting that a Gasol-Afflalo swap good be good for both the Knicks and the Bulls and their campaign to make the playoffs or go deep in the upcoming postseason.
Gasol is already 35 years old but is still a very good player for the Bulls in his 16th year in the NBA. In 37 games for the current season, Gasol is averaging 16.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 blocked shots per game.
The Bulls recently lost Noah to a long-term injury that will cause the big man to miss the rest of the season and playoffs. However, the Bulls have a few big men available in Gibson, Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic, among others, to man the paint should they decide to trade away the Spanish center.
