Rookie Chris Newsome proved there are no butterflies in his stomach and announced his arrival to the big league – and former Most Valuable Player (MVP) Arwind Santos with an earth-shattering slamma-jamma.

The former collegiate standout from the Ateneo de Manila University held his own against the veteran Santos with a tomahawk dunk in the early goings of the third quarter in his first game in the Philippine Basketball Association.

The Filipino-American Newsome, scored 14 points in his debut for the Meralco Bolts.

“I was fortunate enough for that one to go in. It felt great of course it’s my PBA debut, so it felt good to have a highlight such as that on my opening game,” quipped the 25-year-old guard.

Santos’ team, San Miguel Beer, however, got the last laugh as the Beermen humbled the Bolts with a 101-85 victory en route to a 2-0, win-loss, slate in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.

Meralco, on the other hand, is at 0-1.

Santos romped off with Best Player of the Game honors after his 16-point performance, while SMB point guard Alex Cabagnot listed 18 points. June Mar Fajardo, the reigning back-to-back MVP, meanwhile, chipped in 14 points and grabbed 12 boards.
