Novak Djokovic struggles but wins to advance to 2016 Shanghai Masters semis with Andy Murray

Novak Djokovic wins against Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in US Open 2016 quarterfinals. Serbian champion is officially on-board for semi-finals on Friday.

Top seed and top player Novak Djokovic (Serbia) lost in the first set against Mischa Zverev (Germany) but recovered to win in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Shanghai Masters in Shanghai, China on Friday. Djokovic joins other quarterfinal winners in Andy Murray (Britain) in the semifinal round.

Djokovic beat Zverev, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 while Murray had an easy win over Goffin, 6-2 6-2. Djokovic and Murray, the top two players in the world can meet in the finals if they both win their semis matchups against Roberto Bautista Agut (Spain) for Djokovic and Gilles Simon (France).

Murray said in an interview that he had a hard time against Goffin despite the dominating score. Djokovic had 37 unforced errors in the quarter match but survived the German’s challenge.

“I thought there was a lot of long games and tight games where he had chances on my serve, but also on his own serve, as well,” Murray stated to the official tournament site.

“You’re trying to reach that balance between being concentrated but at the same time being kind of calm and relaxed and enjoying the moment,” Djokovic said to Reuters.

“I was always trying to keep that optimal state of mind. Instead of the occasional tantrum that I used to have, I (switched) that vibration and transformed it in a tune.”
