As the NLEX Road Warriors ended their PBA Philippine Cup campaign against the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters, they have something to be optimistic about the future as former import, Al Thornton confirms his return to the team for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“We are very happy for signing with NLEX again,” said by Thornton’s agent, Sheryl Reyes. “Al (Thornton) is very excited to continue his unfinished business. As he arrives by the 12th of January, he is ready for the PBA war again”
Thornton averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks a game during his previous campaign with NLEX in 2014.
“I can’t wait to see you all again, and I will work harder to help my team get better and hopefully get the championship,” said Thornton through his agent.
NLEX head coach, Boyet Fernandez is also excited for the return of Thornton back in the NLEX locker room. This time, he expects bigger goal for the team as they finished 5th in last year’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“You can’t deny the fact that he did a good job last conference because he brought us to #5 and we lost only to the Meralco Bolts in a best-of-3 series. Of course, we should give him credit so that is why we got him again,” said Fernandez
“When you look at our lineup, you have Sean (Anthony) playing comfortable at the 4, Asi (Taulava) at 5 and we have Al Thornton at the 3… we have quite a strong team,” Fernandez added.
With the short break, Fernandez was surprised that Thornton insisted that he would come to Manila to practice with the team on an earlier date.
“He will be arriving earlier than expected. We were expecting him to come in 2nd week or 3rd week of January but he asked for 2nd week,” confirmed Fernandez.
Fernandez also said that Thornton’s contract is still being finalized but it is all up to the agent (Sheryl Reyes) to finish the job. With that, there seems to be no stopping from Thornton to create havoc once again in the PBA.
