The playoff first-timers, Blackwater Elite provided a tough challenge for the gritty Rain or Shine Elastopainters but despite Carlo Lastimosa’s career high of 35-points. Blackwater fell short 95-90 as they exit the PBA Philippine Cup.
The Elastopainters who lost a 15-point lead may have knocked out Blackwater but Head Coach Yeng Guiao was not happy at all with their win.
“I’m not happy with this win even though we moved forward, but If we play this way again we might not make it to the next round,” Guiao said.
“If we wanna make the semifinals we have to play better than we did today,” said Guiao added. “It was a struggle just trying to shake off Blackwater. They had an excellent game.”
Rain or Shine were led by Jeff Chan’s 17-point performance which was supported by JR Quinahan’s 16 points.
The win was almost overshadowed by Blackwater’s Carlo Lastimosa who raised his game coming in the 2nd half by anchoring his team’s attack by scoring 31 of his 35 points.
“It was a great effort by one guy (good thing) he didn’t get enough support from his teammates. We couldn’t stop him (Lastimosa),” Guiao said.
Lastimosa only had Art Dela Cruz and John Paul Erram as the only players that came out and scored double figures for Blackwater.
With the win, Guiao hopes that in the next games that he would see more energy from his team – especially in defense.
“We prepared really hard for this game but I didn’t see the kind of effort, especially defensive effort, that I expected. But I’m hoping the next time we play we’ll be able to raise our level of energy,” Guiao said.
