Raphael Varane to miss out on UCL Final and EURO 2016

Real Madrid and France defender Raphael Varane will be missing one major game and championship due to his long recovery time after acquiring a 2nd-degree hamstring injury.

Varane, who has gotten more play time this season, has gotten the injury on a training session at Real Madrid and is set out to miss both the UCL Finals with Real against Atletico on the weekend and the EURO 2016 in June.

The French defender was already called for the EURO 2016, but a statement released by FFF said that Varane, considering his long time recovery and the national team’s deadlines, has been replaced by Adil Rami in the French squad selected by France coach Didier Deschamps.

Real Madrid coach Zidane has also made it clear that Varane is the only player not fit to play at the UCL finals, saying Varane will be able to travel and join the team on Saturday, but will not be playing.

Zidane expressed his concern for Varane and hopes he could still play at the Euro 2016, which will be held on his home soil.

Along with Varane, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will also not be joining the squad in June. Benzema was ruled out for his alleged connection to the case of blackmailing teammate Mathieu Valbuena regarding an alleged sex-tape of Valbuena and his partner.

Benzema pleaded for a recall on his case by posting a video on facebook that shows his goals for France, but a statement by French Football Federation (FFF) made it clear that their decision to exclude Benzema is final and  that the French players were not only their athletic performance were evaluated, but also their ability to “work towards unity, in and around the group.”
