UFC 2016: Mike Tyson comeback confirmed in video game

By on

All you fans of Mike Tyson – especially 90s babies who played Punch Out! – have a chance to compete, beat and play him once again in a video game with EA Sports’ second installment of the UFC franchise.

Just like Bruce Lee was the surprise character from the first game, Mike Tyson will be given the same treatment.

Once held the WBC, WBA and IBF Heavyweight championships at the age of 20 years old, Tyson was known as one of the hardest hitters in the sport of boxing.

“When you think about the most devastating fighters of all time, Mike Tyson is either around, or at the top of everyone’s list,” said creative director Brian Hayes as reported by

Tyson ended his boxing career with a 50-6 record with 2 no contests. 44 of his wins came with a knockout.

“It’s fun to think that if MMA was as popular back when he was competing as it is today, you might have seen Tyson put on four ounce gloves and step into the Octagon. This is one of those great ‘what ifs’ that we get to create when making a game like EA Sports UFC 2.”

Now at 49-years-old, Tyson will be remembered with iconic bouts with Buster Mathis, Larry Holmes and rivalry matches with Frank Bruno, Lennox Lewis and most of all with Evander Holyfield.

“As a huge fan, I’m honored to be part of EA Sports and explore the world of mixed martial arts,” said Tyson.

“I follow UFC very closely and it’s going to be very cool to see how I would stack up against these amazing MMA athletes.”

EA confirms that there are 2 versions of Mike Tyson that will be available to play in the game, one is the young Mike Tyson from the 80s and the other is the look that he had before retirement.

UFC 2 will be released worldwide on March 17 on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
