The much talked about Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight could finally be finalized soon. The Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar got a boxing license in California in the United States prompting speculations that this could finally lead to the bout against the retired American boxer.

Conor McGregor has license to box!

According to CBS Sports, McGregor’s agent Audie Attar has confirmed that McGregor got his boxing license in California on Wednesday.

But first, Mayweather Jr. (49-0-0, 26 KOs) should decide to comeback to boxing. The loud and outspoken American was undefeated in his career before retiring after the fight against Andre Berto in September 2015.

The fight against Berto was not well received by fight fans but a comeback fight against McGregor, the most popular fighter today, will bring him more money and prestige similar to the “Fight of the Century” against Manny Pacquiao in May 2015.

McGregor is coming off the destruction of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. The dominant performance made him the first-ever two-weight division champ in MMA history although his featherweight belt was taken away recently due to a technicality.

Against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Conor McGregor would likely stay at the lightweight (155 pounds in MMA). Mayweather Jr. retired as the welterweight (147 pounds) champion and it’s likely they meet somewhere in the middle just to make this fight happen.

Mayweather-McGregor: Shut up and fight!

McGregor and Mayweather Jr. has been active in calling each other out recently. The American talked a bit of trash to the Irishman saying they are not on the same level.

Meanwhile, McGregor said that Mayweather wants the fight to be “under boxing rules” because the American is scared of “a real fight”.

However, with McGregor getting the boxing license in California on Wednesday, this could mean that the Irishman may finally agree to a bout in boxing. McGregor is reportedly demanding $100M fight purse against Mayweather.
