Former NBA player and Atlanta Hawks’ Ivan Johnson was banned from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) following an altercation with PBA Commissioner, Chito Narvasa.

Above the ban, Johnson will have to pay an amount of 250,000 Philippine Pesos ($5,320 USD) as a penalty.

The specific sanctions were, “addressing the Commissioner with profanities and showing utter disrespect for authority” according to the pba.inquirer.net

Johnson’s actions were triggered after being called for a flagrant foul in the 2nd quarter. With the technical foul that was called earlier to Johnson, an ejection followed which caused him to release ‘words of profanity’ in front of the PBA commissioner.

The call for the ban was immediately implemented minutes after the incident.

The lack of ‘due process’ has been cried out as Ivan Johnson was just in his first game of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup in which his team, the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters were currently the defending champions.

Johnson is expected to leave the Philippines immediately and he took his anger to twitter to let everyone know how he feels.

A few days before the ban, Johnson was also involved in an altercation during a tune-up match that led him to be suspended for one game.

This was not the first time that Johnson was banned in a pro-league and a similar situation happened in Korea.
