James Jones has been cut by the San Diego Chargers weeks before the start of the new season and there are NFL rumors that the veteran might land with a team like the Philadelphia Eagles, who wants to improve their WR depth.
The 32-year-old wide receiver has been without a team the last two cutoffs of the offseason though he played last year for the Green Bay Packers, his team from 2007 to 2013. He played for the Oakland Raiders in 2014 before returning to Green Bay last season.
The Chargers waived Jones after he signed a minimum deal in San Diego at the start of the 2016 offseason because their main wide receiver Stevie Johnson suffered an injury that will cause him to miss the whole season.
According to NFL rumors, Jones did not fit well with San Diego’s offense as he never found time to adjust to their system with a short training camp. Other WRs in the Chargers line-up are Keenan Allen, Travis Benjamin, Tyrell Williams and Dontrelle Inman.
In 2015, Jones led Green Bay with 890 receiving yards on 50 receptions with eight touchdowns.
James Jones is now a free agent and other teams who need help in that position can try to get him this offseason. Desperate for additional wide receivers are the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns.

The Eagles are the likely place for Jones as the team targets a playoff spot this year. Philadelphia has Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor and Dorial Green-Beckham in their WR depth chart.
