The Walking Dead Season 7: The one important thing most fans might have missed in the premiere

By on

Those who have watched the bloody premiere of The Walking Dead Season 7 might just be focusing on who will die under Negan’s barbed wire bat that they failed to notice one important thing in the episode: how heartbreakingly sweet Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) said good bye to Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green).

Abraham was one of the bada** characters in the movie, rough and has a vocabulary that gave TWD fans the phrase ‘ mother dick.’ That is why no one expected that he would be the guy to give the most heartbreaking goodbyes before his death.

Anyone who was paying close attention to Abe would have noticed how he said goodbye to Sasha using the peace sign they so often used to assure each other that everything is going to be fine. According to Cudlitz himself, the peace sign was something exclusive to the lovebirds throughout the whole series. He also added that they had included that after thinking how he should say goodbye to Sasha without losing eye contact with Negan.

“Going back into it, we had to figure out a way that he could basically tell Sasha that everything was going to be OK and to say goodbye, and that was what we came up with. For those who caught it, I think it’s highly, highly effective,” Cudlitz continued.

For those who can remember, it was the same peace sign Abraham gave Sasha in Season 6 as an assurance when Rick shot Pete, and Alexandria resident. The Walking Dead director Greg Nicotero said that it was Cudlitz who added that and it was so heartbreakingly beautiful considering the meaning of the sign between the two.

When asked about how he felt leaving the show, Cudlitz can’t hide the sadness he felt and confessed that it was rough considering that the cast has become a family and he was saying goodbye to the people he considered as family, people whom he has grown to love over the years.
