World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Cody Rhodes was released from his duty after the company made it official this Sunday. The news broke out hours before the Extreme Rules 2016 pay-per-view (PPV). Rhodes released a statement recently which accused the Vince McMahon lead wrestling promotion of using him as a “door-to-door salesman”.
“In the past 6 months I had pleaded with WWE Creative and both of my bosses to let me roll-the-dice and once again be Cody Rhodes. I had pitched to every writer on staff like a door-to-door salesman.” Rhodes wrote on Twitter.
After the tweet, speculations ran wild among the WWE faithful’s regarding the treatment of the superstar from the wrestling promotion. Cody Rhodes’ release from the company mirrors the same theory we have heard millions of times recently of how WWE chews up its talented wrestlers and the spits them away.
Son of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, Cody had a brilliant future as predicted by many when he joined the company in 2006. However, he failed to break the glass ceiling within the company which forced him behind the pack.
According to his statement, it is quite clear that Cody was forced to take on the Stardust persona which he was clearly not happy with. Given this treatment by the company, it will be a surprise if we see the wrestler ever come back to the WWE ring once again.
Nothing is clear at the moment regarding the future of Dusty Rhodes’ son. The 30-year-old will likely sign with a wrestling promotion which will utilize his talent and wrestling ability in a way he is comfortable with.
There was always a doubt within the wrestling fraternity whether Cody Rhodes would live up to the legacy left by his father. While his release from the company does put a dent on his journey, for many the man from Dallas, Texas has already made it.
