The year started off with Edge winning the WWE championship for the very first time. He defended the title for the first time against Ric Flair in a TLC Match. It was a very entertaining match even though Flair had been already a 56-year-old wrestler.

The storytelling in the match was incredible with Flair showing heart and determination to give Edge a real challenge. However, Lita’s involvement was too much as The Rated R Superstar retained the WWE title.

The match was filled with great spots like Flair bleeding, Edge hitting a splash through a table and Lita receiving a Figure 4 Leg Lock. The Nature Boy also did a huge bump when he got superplexed off the top of a ladder.

9. CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. The Miz in a Triple Threat TLC Match for the WWE Championship (TLC 2011)

Hey, it’s CM Punk in the WWE. The Straightedge Superstar just won the WWE championship at Survivor Series. However, he had to defend the title in a Triple Threat TLC Match against Alberto Del Rio and The Miz.

Many fans at that time doubted The Miz’s involvement in the match. But The Awesome One proved them wrong as he stole the show. The match had a lot of crazy bumps, but CM Punk was able to withstand everything, including being handcuffed to retain the WWE title.

It was one of many title defenses for the now winless MMA fighter during his reign. The TLC Match in 2011 has been just the start of his 434-day reign as champion.

8. The Undertaker vs. Edge in a Singles TLC Match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship (One Night Stand 2008)

The feud of 2008 was The Undertaker vs. Edge. In one of the best TLC Matches ever, Edge outlasted The Undertaker at One Night Stand 2008. He won the vacant World Heavyweight Championship and vanish The Deadman from the WWE.

The match was filled with some high-risk spots with Edge taking a Last Ride through two tables. On the other hand, The Undertaker took a nasty spill on the outside onto four tables.

La Familia interfered in the match and it proved costly for The Undertaker. However, Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins took bumps on tables while Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely took chair shots to the head.

7. Kane vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Christian & Chris Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam in a Fatal 4-Way TLC Match for the World Tag Team Championships (WWE RAW, October 7, 2002)

Hurricane was not able to work the match but Kane managed to win the title. His performance in the match might be one of the best of his career. Some of the huge spots in the match include Jericho putting the Walls of Jericho to RVD at the top of the ladder and Hardy going through a table.

The WWE might not recognize this match due to Chris Benoit being in it but we’ll include this because it is one of the best TLC Matches in history. It is dubbed as TLC III and it happened in an episode of SmackDown.

Jericho and Benoit are the champions coming into the match. Vince McMahon ordered them to defend the titles against the originators of the TLC Match to make it a Fatal 4-Way. Chaos ensued throughout the match that lasted over 20 minutes.

Benoit was able to retrieve the titles to retain it but after going through hell. He performed his suicide dive onto a table even though he was due for a neck surgery. The match was one of the best TLC Match ever and the one of the best of 2001.

Heading into the match, there are reports that Jeff Hardy will be leaving the WWE. It is expected that CM Punk will win, which he did, but it did not prevent the match from being a classic.

It was a war between two rivals with Hardy doing his usual stuff during TLC matches. Punk punished Hardy as it was the first time that he was playing a heel character.

The highlight of the match was Hardy hitting the Swanton Bomb onto CM Punk, who is on the commentary table, from a 25-foot ladder. It has cemented Jeff as one of the best risk-takers in WWE history.

It seems like Edge has made it his mission to make TLC Matches great. 2006 was the year The Rated R Superstar finally breakout from the mid cards and become a main event player. He is the champion heading into the match that was held in his hometown.

The match, just like any other TLC Match was full of high spots, but the highlight was Cena giving the AA to Edge from the top of the ladder onto two tables. Cena also took a big bump outside from the top of the ladder to a table courtesy of Lita.

3. The Shield vs. Team Hell No & Ryback in a Six-Man Tag Team TLC Match (TLC 2012)

This match is high on this list because it is the debut match of The Shield. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns put on a great performance in their first match ever on the main roster.

It helped that they were against Kane, Daniel Bryan and Ryback. The match had no titles on the line so it was just to punish each other. Rollins took a nasty bump in the entrance ramp when Ryback pushed him off a ladder and onto a stack of tables.

The significance of this match is really high as it cemented the future of the WWE. Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns are three of the pillars of the company. Without this match, The Shield might not become the greatest stable of the past ten years.

2. Edge & Christian vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Hardy Boyz in a Triple Threat Tag Team TLC Match for the WWE Tag Team Championships (SummerSlam 2000)

The first ever TLC Match lived up to the hype. The match was put together based on the expertise of each tag teams involved. E&C are the masters of the chairs, The Dudleys like putting people through tables and The Hardys like jumping off ladders.

The three teams were coming off a great Triangle Ladder Match at WrestleMania 2000 that stole the show. Adding the tables and chairs made it more amazing as the teams revolutionized tag team wrestling.

Edge and Christian were able to retain their championship, but the legacies of the three teams involved were cemented. Despite being the first one, the three teams were able to top it at WrestleMania X-Seven the next year.

The greatest TLC Match of all time involves the three tag team pioneers. It also happened in the greatest WrestleMania of all time, which makes it more historic. Dubbed as TLC II, it has the same spots as the first one, but the involvement of Lita, Spike Dudley and Rhyno made it more entertaining.

Spike was able to hit a Dudley Dog on Christian onto a table while Lita received a 3D from Bubba Ray and D-Von. Rhyno gored his way in the match and helped Edge and Christian retrieve the tag team titles.

The highlight of the match, and possibly the greatest sport in TLC history, was when Edge speared Jeff Hardy while he was hanging from the ceiling. It was a 20-foot drop the left the audience stunned in disbelief.

The greatness of the match still gets talked about to this day by wrestling fans. It is a real five-star match and the truth is, no other future TLC may ever be able to top it.
