On December, 2014 a blockbuster announcement was made by the former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion CM Punk. He announced that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was his next destination and the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” would be fighting in the Octagon. However, Punk is yet to step inside the Octagon and this was enough for WWE superstars Edge and Christian to take a dig at him.
Both the superstars have their own show on the WWE Network called “Edge & Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness”. During a reoccurring segment on the show called “Will WWE Talk About it?” both the superstars mocked the 37-year-old.
“Yes! The WWE will gladly talk about CM Punk’s UFC debut! If he ever has one,” Christian said.
Punk has been on the receiving end of a host of injuries since joining the UFC and that has prevented the former WWE Champion from making his debut in the mixed-martial-art (MMA) promotion. However, his lack of appearance in the Octagon has become a running joke within the MMA fraternity.
Since Punk’s departure from the Vince McMahon owned wrestling promotion, WWE did not say a word regarding his UFC venture. Edge and Christian’s dig on Punk was the first and probably the last one would hear from WWE in regards to the UFC debut of Punk.
The man from Chicago, Illinois was previously expected to face newcomer Mickey Gall at UFC 199, but was unable to do so owing to a surgery on his herniated disk in his back. This pushed his debut even further and based on the recovery, one may hope that Punk will return in the Octagon this fall, almost two years since his announcement.
