The WWE Battleground 2016 card is quickly taking shape with less than three weeks before the event. There are already four announced matches, so here are the updated match card and rumors for WWE Battleground 2016 after the July 4th edition of Monday Night Raw.
- Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
The Shield Triple Threat Match the fans have been dreaming about is still going to happen despite the suspension of Roman Reigns due to his first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy. WWE champion Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are building the match quite nicely.
It seems unfair to both superstars that they are carrying the load in promoting the match. However, the latest rumors suggest that Reigns will not come out as a four-time WWE champion. According to What Culture, the WWE is planning a redemption storyline for Reigns once he returns from his 30-day suspension.
- John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. The Club
The WWE seems to be saving the second John Cena vs. A.J. Styles match at SummerSlam. In the latest episode of Raw, Enzo & Big Cass came down to save Cena from The Club and the six-man tag match was immediately announced after the show ended. It looks like the WWE found a way to make Styles stronger as he won’t get pinned when The Club losses at WWE Battleground 2016.
- Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
The latest Owens vs. Zayn match is being built as the final chapter in these two superstar’s historic feud. Of course, don’t believe the WWE when they say something like that. Just look at the Cena-Orton rivalry. Expect a no-contest or a screwy finish to allow these two men to continue their rivalry until the end of time.
- Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
The lovely Becky Lynch needs the win more than Natalya. Their rivalry has been okay but the WWE should really think more about how to make women’s feuds. It’s like the third friend that has turned on Becky.
On the other hand, here are the other rumored matches that may be added to the match card, per Cageside Seats.
- The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
The seeds of The New Day breaking up might have been planted on Raw when Xavier Woods was serious in talking about the threat of The Wyatt Family. Nonetheless, this match is very intriguing because of the dynamic and conflicting characters of The New Day and The Wyatt Family.
- Sheamus vs. Apollo Crews
Sheamus finally pinned Apollo Crews on Raw and it will likely lead to a grudge match at WWE Battleground 2016. There is a rumor that says Crews has backstage heat for not getting over so don’t be surprised if he loses this match.
- Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks & Paige
Sasha Banks confronted Charlotte in this week’s Raw with no Paige in sight. The WWE could always make a Banks vs. Charlotte title match with Dana Brooke causing a disqualification. It will lead to a rematch at SummerSlam where The Boss finally wins the WWE Women’s championship.
