WWE Battleground 2016 is still less than a month away and there is only one official match for the event. However, expect more of the rumored matches to be confirmed in the coming weeks and some may be even announced this Monday on Raw. Here is the updated match card and rumors for WWE Battleground 2016.
- Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Ambrose became the WWE champion after cashing in the Money in the Bank contract on Seth Rollins, seconds after defeating Roman Reigns at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Rollins and Reigns faced each other the next night on Raw to determine the No. 1 contender.
However, it resulted in a double count out that led to the Triple Threat Match at WWE Battleground 2016. It should be noted that Roman Reigns will not be present during the buildup because of his 30-day suspension for violating the WWE’s Wellness Policy.
The Triple Threat Match for the WWE title is the only official match at the moment. Here are all the rumored matches that may be added to the match card, per Cageside Seats.
- John Cena vs. A.J. Styles
Styles got the win at Money in the Bank and it is expected that the feud between the two will be until SummerSlam in August. However, Cena does not lose back-to-back pay-per-views so he will surely win this matchup.
- The Club vs. The Usos
The WWE failed to make the most out of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Since they failed to the win the tag titles at Money in the Bank and The Club needs to look strong, The Usos will put them over once again.
- The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
The Wyatt Family returned to Monday Night Raw last week after a long absence but they were interrupted by The New Day. It’s an odd matchup with the scary creepy team of bearded men against the goofy, funny and world famous two-time tag team champs.
- Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
These two men are really destined to fight each other forever. The fans should have no complaints if Owens and Zayn are having another match. They are capable of putting a very good show every time they face each other.
- Sheamus vs. Apollo Crews
Apollo Crews defeated Sheamus at Money in the Bank while The Celtic Warrior prevailed via count out this past week on SmackDown. A third and final matchup is on the cards and don’t be surprised if these gets bumped down to the WWE Battleground 2016 Kickoff Show.
- Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks & Paige
The Boss is finally back and she is coming for Charlotte’s Women’s championship. However, wait for it to happen at SummerSlam.
- Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
Why is everyone turning on Becky Lynch? Is she a bad friend? Both women need the win really bad but Becky needs it more. She’s got a bright future and Natalya is there to put over the next generation of female wrestlers.
WWE Battleground 2016 will be held on July 24 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.
