World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Chris Jericho will be leaving RAW after the May 1st episode. The 46-year-old will take a temporary hiatus from the wrestling promotion as he is set to join his band Fozzy on tour. It is still unknown when Y2J will return to a WWE ring.
Jericho is set to face Kevin Owens for the WWE United States Championship at Payback on April 30. With the superstar set to leave, the results of the weekend pay-per-view (PPV) may already have been spilled. Jericho will obviously lose the match. However, the only thing remaining is how Owens will get the win. Will it be a clean match or will we see someone get involved?
Jericho and Owens have been feuding ever since Owens turned on Jericho during the ‘Festival of Friendship’ on the February 13th episode of RAW. The two had been ‘best friends’ in storyline until then and Owens later successfully challenged Jericho for the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania 33.
Owens was later transferred to SmackDown Live during the WWE Superstar Shake-Up. It will be interesting to see how Jericho is written off RAW. According to WrestlingRumors.net, there is a chance that The Drifter Elias Samson could attack Jericho and have a match with him before Jericho departs on his hiatus.
When will Jericho return to WWE?
With his departure imminent for May 1, WWE fans are now wondering when Chris Jericho will return to the WWE ring. The earliest that could happen is by June once his band’s tour is over according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
With Jericho departing RAW, general manager Kurt Angle will have one less showman at his disposal. Until now, the attention has been centered around Braun Strowman and his rampage. However, twists could be made on the upcoming episode of Monday Night RAW after WWE Payback this Sunday.
With Chris Jericho still appearing on the May 1 edition of WWE Raw, there could be more surprises in store. He could get attacked by someone while addressing the fans, raising a possible injury storyline that will back his time off.
How will WWE book Jericho’s exit?
Looking back to the April 24 episode of WWE Raw, Jericho did have a segment involving Dean Ambrose and The Miz. It went on to be a match, a handicap match that turned into a no contest when things got out of hand.
Bray Wyatt was supposed to partner with The Miz but the Reaper of Souls came out a bit late. Wyatt did make up for it and that was where mayhem started.
With Jericho leaving, Bray Wyatt could be the perfect guy to send off Y2J. But that would be part of a bigger script, referring to the former champion’s next adversary.
Wyatt is scheduled to face Randy Orton as well at WWE Payback. The odds of Wyatt bringing the WWE SmackDown heavyweight title on Raw are low. So like the Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho match, the Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt card could see some outside involvement for both WWE stars too.
