Goldberg lost his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Universal title to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33. The 50-year-old former World Championship Wrestling (WCW) veteran bid the fans farewell after the latest episode of Monday Night RAW went off air.
However, backstage whispers suggest that the wrestling promotion has not shut the door for Goldberg yet. There is a huge possibility that Goldberg could return again in the future and wrestle another match.
WWE impressed with Goldberg
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently revealed that Goldberg’s recent run in the WWE is considered a success within the company. The superstar was able to sell large amount of merchandise. His character was hot and was able to cut very strong promos.
According to Meltzer, WWE was not very keen on letting Goldberg leave. The wrestling promotion was extremely impressed with the veteran’s recent run. They will definitely like to utilize him in future pay-per-views (PPV).
In his recent appearance on RAW after WrestleMania, Goldberg addressed the WWE crowd and spoke about his recent run in the company. The man from Tulsa, Oklahoma stated that he will be stepping away from the squared circle for now. However, the former WCW legend stressed that no one should ever rule out another comeback in the future.
If Meltzer’s words are to be believed, the WWE creative will look to bring in Goldberg before WrestleMania 34 next year. This is mainly because the company is running out of part-time superstars to use.
WWE lack big-name veterans
Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Legend contracts with the WWE has run out. With The Undertaker retiring at WrestleMania 33 and The Rock unable to find time because of his busy movie schedule, the WWE has a dearth of big-name veterans at its disposal heading to Mania 34 at New Orleans next year.
With the recent departures of Foley, Austin, and The Undertaker, the WWE has roped in Kurt Angle as an on-screen authority figure. Brock Lesnar and Triple H are the only big-name veterans available to the wrestling promotion at the moment. Hence, a potential Goldberg return a few months down the line looks like a real possibility.
However, the WWE is yet to confirm a potential Goldberg return as of now. But, with how the company operates on its storylines, one may very well expect the legendary entrance music of Goldberg hit in any of the arenas before the big-four PPV’s this year or the next.
