The WWE is bringing back the Royal Rumble at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas for the event’s 30th anniversary in 2017. The latest WWE rumors have revealed the huge names that could appear for the 2017 Royal Rumble to help the event’s ticket sales.
Vince McMahon and the WWE are trying to fill a 65,000-seater stadium and they have to bring out their big guns for the event. This year’s Royal Rumble sold out 15,000 tickets which mean the company has to make up for a lot of people.
According to Ringside News, the WWE is planning to have Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin appear in the event. The two Hall of Famers are from Texas with Michaels being from San Antonio. It should be noted that the 1997 Royal Rumble in the same stadium was headlined by Michaels vs. Sid Vicious for the WWE Championship.
The report added that Michaels and Austin will likely get advertised for the event but expect no in-ring action. Austin got injured during their physical segment at WrestleMania 32 earlier this year and the WWE won’t make the same mistake again.
Also, The Undertaker is rumored to be in the plans as well but he has been telling people that he retired at WrestleMania 32. However, these three superstars are not enough to attract 65,000 fans despite their popularity.
According to What Culture, the WWE has to stack up the Royal Rumble match card with superstars such as John Cena, A.J. Styles and Brock Lesnar. The report noted that bringing back former superstars like Rey Mysterio and many Mexican legends could also help with the ticket sales.
Nevertheless, these are just rumors at the moment and should be taken with a grain of salt. The Royal Rumble will be on January 29, 2017 and tickets will go on sale on October 14, 2016.
