World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Famer, Hulk Hogan in presently in talks with Vince McMahon over a potential return to the wrestling promotion. Both the parties are reportedly back to being on good terms. This is after a racial controversy separated them a couple of years ago.
According to the May 8 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hogan recently revealed that he’s in negotiations with Vince McMahon to return to the company. However, there has been no confirmation on the news from any other sources until now.
“Hulk Hogan did an autograph signing over the weekend in Los Angeles and when asked about the obvious question, just said he and Vince are talking. Then again, it is Hogan. The answer to the question of his returning is always about when the feeling it is a time when the company feels there will be no potential sponsor backlash,” WON reported (h/t Forbes.com).
Hogan’s love-hate relationship with WWE
Hulk Hogan had been suspended by the WWE in 2015. This was following Hogan’s racist remarks being leaked in public as part of a larger sex tape scandal. The wrestling promotion had since gone out of their way to remove all references to Hulk Hogan from their website, archives and programming, going as far as confiscating Hulk Hogan signs as well.
Hogan sued Bubba The Love Sponge, who had recorded the tape. The lawsuit subsequently ended up including the website responsible for the distribution, Gawker, as well.
The court awarded Hulk Hogan damages to the tune of $115 Million as a result of the lawsuit. However, Gawker eventually settled with Hogan for $31 Million in November 2016. Bubba made peace with Hulk out of court as well.
Ever since the lawsuit came to an end, WWE has been slowly reinstating references to Hulk Hogan in their programming. There are sporadic mentions of his name on the commentary coming through every once in a while.
The 63-year-old is reportedly stocking a lot of WWE merchandise in his Hogan’s Beach Shop in Florida. The man from Augusta, Georgia has previously stated that he would like to execute his signature leg-drop on Vince McMahon for one last time.
Hogan’s future in pro wrestling
Hogan is currently keeping himself busy with the promotion of his Hogan’s Beach Shop, and his social media activity reflects the same. Unlike his peers, Hulk Hogan doesn’t perform on the independent circuit and mostly keeps himself limited to big payday appearances.
As far as the WWE are concerned, they do like cashing in on nostalgia and it remains to be seen if these rumors hold any weight.
