The WWE suspended Roman Reigns for 30 days on June 21 after his first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy. According to the latest WWE rumors, there are already storyline plans for Reigns’ return and it will be about getting redemption.
In the latest edition of Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins cut a promo that blasted Reigns for his lack of judgment. However, it did not stop the WWE in booking him in the main event of Battleground against WWE champion Dean Ambrose and Rollins.
According to PW Torch (h/t Daily DDT), the current plan for Reigns’ return is a “redemption story.” It will reportedly tell the people how the suspension affected the former champion’s morale. The hope is that Reigns struggling to get his mojo back will make him a sympathetic babyface as the WWE tries to get him over again.
The closest story relating to Reigns that has been used in the past is with Jeff Hardy. The Charismatic Enigma has a long history of drug addiction and his climb to the top in the late 2000s was a great story. However, Hardy has natural charisma while Reigns has not connected to the fans very well.
It will take more time for the 31-year-old to regain the WWE title since the company does not want the mainstream media to think that they reward Wellness Policy violators. Nonetheless, Reigns will live with the notion that he was busted while he’s the champion.
In addition to the shoot-like promo by Rollins, the WWE reportedly made Reigns apologize to all the people in the locker room. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestle Zone), Triple H was the one who ordered the three-time champion to do it.
The apology received mixed reactions from the locker room with people saying that it was unnecessary while others think it was the right thing to do. Reigns will also lose approximately $100,000 because of his suspension.
