Every year around the spring months there are a number of cuts made throughout the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It’s mostly the in-ring talent who are on the receiving end of the chopping block.
Vince McMahon, owner of WWE has never disclosed the origin of these cuts. However, it is evident that the wrestling promotion takes the measures to help trim costs and assist with getting budget issues for annual shareholder meetings.
The cuts are necessary for the company for smooth day-to-day operations. Hence, we at Sports Rageous have taken an in-depth look at the WWE roster and come out with these five names who could receive their marching orders by the end of the month of May.
Rhyno has been one of the most consistent and underrated big guys of the last 20 years in the field of professional wrestling. The 41-year-old’s recent run in SmackDown as the Tag Team champions with Heath Slater was an entertaining story. It also helped WWE’s blue brand achieve a lot of success last year.
With the turn of the year, Rhyno’s focus seems to have shifted to public service. The man from Detroit recently ran for Michigan House of Representatives, in an election where he won the Republican ticket but was defeated in the overall election.
Despite not winning a spot in the House, Rhyno still works diligently in his community of Dearborn, Michigan and it’s a pretty safe assumption that he will likely run for office again in the near future. Hence, his future with the WWE looks bleak at the moment.
4) Darren Young
Darren Young has been a victim of the WWE’s lack of direction. The company has tried implementing some of the more hokey ideas into Young’s persona, such as the angle with Bob Backlund, but they went over like a sack of potatoes. The 33-year-old had the best run of his WWE career with Titus O-Neil, as part of the Prime Time Players.
Darren is the perfect middle-of-the-road performer. But, there’s not much beyond that, and it’s highly doubtful that he will ever make it to the main event level. With WWE NXT having a plethora of top talent, the time may have come of Darren Young to leave the company and explore his options elsewhere.
3) Sin Cara
Sin Cara’s exit from the WWE is a long time coming affair. One may wonder how he would have been received as Hunico. However, he time has passed and its better to move on for both the company and Sin Cara himself.
Sin Cara and Kalisto had a pretty good run as Lucha Dragons, but even that was short-lived. If in fact, he were to get canned, there’s no doubt he’ll do just fine, whether it be with him going somewhere such as TNA, or even back to AAA in Mexico.
2) James Ellsworth
There are doubts within the WWE fraternity as to why the company gave James Ellsworth a contract. The more surprising fact of his character was beating AJ Styles. This is after he signed the contract for WWE’s blue brand.
James Ellsworth has played his annoying character well until now. However, his current role is the most cringe-worthy thing on television. However, the time has come for Ellsworth to leave the wrestling promotion as his skit has become one dimensional.
Paige had the potential at one time to possibly be one of the greatest WWE Women’s wrestlers of all-time. The 24-year-old had the entire women’s division in the palm of her hands and was in a position to lead women’s wrestling for the foreseeable future. Paige was essentially the face of an entire division. In the eyes of the WWE Universe, she could do no wrong.
However, Alberto Del Rio arriver in her life. Whatever Paige has with Del Rio, it’s obvious that it was the wedge which was driven by her love for the business, as well as the fans….and her romance outside of WWE.
As long as Del Rio is calling the shots for Paige, the chance of the Anti-Dival returning to the WWE roster looks slim. Hence, it looks like we have seen the last of the superstar, who at one time was destined for greatness.
