The Undertaker retired from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) at the end of WrestleMania 33. The Dead Man’s career has spanned around a quarter of a century in the professional wrestling circuit.
Even after The Undertaker’s retirement, there have been constant speculations about his return for one last match in the WWE ring. However, there has been an update. It suggests that The Phenom’s actions at the end of ‘Mania 33 symbolized much more than the end of his wrestling career.
Mark Calaway will never play the character again
When The Undertaker dropped his gloves, hat and trenchcoat in the middle of the ring at the end of the show, he not only retired from in-ring competition but was also retiring The Undertaker character altogether. Mark Calaway, who plays the character, does not intend to play it again under any circumstances, according to Sportskeeda.
The gesture at the end of WrestleMania meant more than the end of Mark Calaway’s professional wrestling career. It signified the end of The Undertaker character from sports entertainment.
Calaway will reportedly never play the character of The Undertaker again. This will also be applicable at the WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony.
Razor Ramon’s character was inducted into the Hall of Fame instead of Scott Hall. It will be same for The Undertaker, who will be named into the Hall of Fame and not Mark Calaway.
WWE universe to see more of Mark Calaway the man
The 52-year-old lost to Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 33. Throughout the span of his career, the Dead Man has won multiple world championships. He has also won a tag team championship and a Royal Rumble.
The Phenom’s WrestleMania career ended at 23-2. However, it has to be noted that it was once at 21-0, until his 23 year ‘Mania streak was ended at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans, LA, by Brock Lesnar. The Undertaker missed WrestleMania X and 2000.
With Calaway laying The Undertaker character to rest, this will now open the door to fans seeing more of Mark Calaway the man. Both the WWE and Calaway will want to continue their relationship in some capacity and it’s likely that the WWE universe may finally get a book and DVD with Mark Calaway’s involvement talking about The Undertaker character.
